Abstract

Basalt fibers, derived from volcanic rock, have emerged as a potential alternative in various industrial applications due to their unique properties. The use of BFs offers significant advantages, including high tensile strength, resistance to heat, and chemical stability, making them suitable for reinforcing materials in industries such as construction, automotive, and electronics. The growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable materials has encouraged increased research and application of BFs, particularly as a replacement for traditional, less environmentally friendly fibers like asbestos. This study aims to provide an overview of the development and application of BFs, focusing on their mechanical properties, performance in composites, and potential to replace synthetic fibers. Using bibliometric analysis, were analyzed publication trends and patents related to BFs from 1977 to 2023, identifying key research trends, leading institutions, and the global impact of these fibers. The findings show a steady increase in research and application, with significant growth in the use of BFs in construction, transportation, and renewable energy sectors. BFs not only offer enhanced material performance but also support sustainability goals by reducing the environmental footprint. The study concludes that BFs are well-positioned to become a leading material in future composite applications.
