Abstract

An insight into the perfume companies created in Spain is carried out. For that purpose, both companies nowadays disappeared or included in others and those continuing their independent marketing activity even at international extent have been taken into account. Likewise, glass containers of representative products of such companies during the 20th century are revised. By means of literature and web reviewing and direct observation, typologies of glass containers as well as their chronological evolution and relation with concepts concerning perfumes and temporal cultural characteristics are studied. The meaning of glass containers design and the role played by marketing advertising policies, which overflows olfactory properties of perfumes, are discussed. Suitability of glass as the best perfume container material is demonstrated by its long historic and artistic way. Moreover, glass allowed and today allows a perfect image able for many creative designs while offering the properties needed for proper conservation of perfume.
