FEMINICIDE IN LATIN AMERICA An analysis of sociocultural features of the aggressor

Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify the scientific evidence available in the literature on the sociocultural traits of the aggressors that generate femicide in Latin America. To this end, an integrative review of the literature was carried out with the purpose of showing in a comprehensive manner the main characteristics that scientific production presents in relation to the topic. Twenty-eight articles were selected from the Scopus, WoS and SciELO databases, taking into account the year of publication, the number of documents, the research methodology used, the language, the journals and the database with the largest number of publications. The results show that important studies have been developed in Latin America on femicide and its possible causes; in addition, the greatest scientific production was developed during the years 2023 and 2021. Likewise, studies with a qualitative approach predominated when carrying out studies on this topic. It was concluded that, although laws have been implemented in Latin America to address femicide and the nations that make up this territory have recognized femicide as a criminal offense, the reality is far from what the theory has sought to implement. The situation of Latin American women is characterized by physical, psychological and sexual violence due to a patriarchal society that does not allow their social and economic development.
