Abstract

The idea of starting the Journal of Insects as Food and Feed (JIFF) was conceived by Wageningen Academic Publishers in 2013 and the Editorial Board met for the first time during the Conference Insects to Feed the World in the Netherlands in 2014. The first issue was launched in early 2015 with a foreword by Alan Yen, the Chief Editor, entitled ‘Why a Journal of Insects as Food and Feed?’ (Yen, 2015). Alan acted as editor-in-chief from January 2015 until the autumn of 2016. Because Alan was experiencing health issues, I gradually took over in 2016 (Van Huis, 2017). Alan passed away early in 2017, and in the same year an obituary was published (Turpin, 2017)
