Abstract

Welcomes the impact on UK health care of the systematic exploitation of knowledge and the role of librarians in this development. Looks at the direction of change in the character of health care information and in its future requirements, focusing on: hybrid libraries; the application of standards in the National Health Service; information management tailored to user needs; technologies; consumer health information; the role of consortia in challenging publishers' monopolies and bureaucracy in copyright procedures; research in library and information work; continuing professional development; and, solutions to pressure on time.
