Abstract
A p p a r e n t R e s i s t i v i t y a n d S e l f P o t e n t i a l d a t a w e r e a c q u i r e d f r o m t h e s t u d y a r e a u s i n g v e r t i c a l e l e c t r i c a l s o u n d i n g t e c h n i q u e a b o u t s q u a r e g r i d o f 1 0 0 m s i z e w i t h i n t h e a c a d e m i c a r e a o f O l d Campus of Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria. The are a is located between Latitude .7009511 0 ′′ ′ N to .2498511 0 ′′ ′ N a n d L o n g i t u d e .335828 0 ′′ ′ E t o E.800928 0 ′′ ′ . T h e c o l l e c t e d d a t a w e r e a n a l y z e d u s i n g I P 1 2 W I N , S u r f e r v e r s i o n 7 . 0 , a n d M S E x c e l . T h e s t u d y e n a b l e d u s t o g e n e r a t e g r a p h i c a l display of groundwater flow pattern and basement ro ck topography in the study area. Review of p a s t g r o u n d w a t e r e x p l o r a t i o n a c t i v i t i e s s h o w e d t h a t t h e m a x i m u m d r i l l i n g d e p t h o f b o r e h o l e s w i t h i n t h e i n v e s t i g a t i o n a r e a w a s 4 2 . 0 m . H o w e v e r , t h i s s t u d y , b a s e d o n t h e a c q u i r e d d a t a a n a l y z e d , r e c o m m e n d e d f o r d r i l l i n g d e p t h o f a b o u t 6 0 . 0 t o 8 0 . 0 m a n d i n a d d i t i o n i d e n t i f i e d locations of possible higher/sustainable yield. Thu s, this study will consequently help in optimized citing of boreholes and curtail unwarranted spendin g from indiscriminate and shallow sinking of boreholes. The study identified the areas between B iology Department and Central Mosque, and around Sports Complex for groundwater exploitation activities.
