Abstract
This article discusses Islamic politics at the time of the Prophet Muhammad and its relation to the upheaval of the Indonesian Islamic party. The development of Islam that has continued to develop since the death of the Prophet presents its own challenges regarding the future of Islam which tries to restore Islam to the time of the Prophet. The idea of Daulah Islamiyah was raised as the great desire of the Muslim community, but several views related to the paradigm of religious and state relations were then raised to read the challenges of an Islamic state. This paper concludes that first, the concept of Islamic politics has been born since the time of Muhammad's Prophet's Prophethood, as evidenced by the attempt to merge ethnicity in Arab society with the process of Islamization (combining faith and political power). The concept of an Islamic state was echoed during the Khulafaur Rasyidin era in the caliphate system. Second, The relationship between state and religion is divided into three typologies, namely secularistic, formalistic, and substantialistic. The Indonesian Islamic political context includes a substantialistic context, which does not want the development of an Islamic state but is based on Islam in the practice of state ethics.
