Abstract
Stress influences the quality of working life among nurses. The consequences of occupational stress are described by literature, revealing consequences at a short and long term in the quality of life both for workers and organizations. Regarding the specificities of the Occupational context, one of the strategies which can be implemented to manage stress is relaxation, especially the Jacobson’s progressive relaxation technique. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a management stress program. It is an exploratory and descriptive study, integrated within the paradigm of quantitative research. It is also a prospective and longitudinal study, having an intra-subjects approach, with data collected at two different moments that configures a pre and a post-test design. During the interval we implemented a psycho-pedagogical program among a group of nurses (N=92) who voluntary agreed to participate. The results showed advantages in the implementation of occupational stress management programs using the Jacobson’s progressive relaxation technique.
