Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyse the various statutes of sports clubs and associations found in the Biblioteca Nacional de Chile covering the period 1895-1934. Based on these sources, the article argues that, in a context characterised by important changes in the social and political structure of the country, clubs and associations emerged as places of political participation for civil society. They favoured the promotion of a civic education discourse that was characterised by the values of liberalism and nationalism in vogue.
