Abstract

Abiespiroside A (1), a unique sesquiterpenoid spirolactone with a 6/6/5 ring system, was isolated from Abies delavayi Franch. The structure was established as (1R,5R,6R,7S,9R)-6,9α-epoxy-9,15-bisabolanolide-5-O-β- D-glucopyranoside by extensive analysis of various spectroscopic data and further confirmation by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It showed potent inhibitory activity against the production of nitric oxide in RAW264.7 macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharides. Copyright © 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
