The electrification of transportation began in the late nineteenth century, although it was the electric car that was first replaced by gasoline vehicles, as these offered more autonomy. Almost 100 years later, we are observing the revival of electric vehicles, although this time within a broader concept of mobility: electrical, connected and autonomous. In order to understand this transition as well as the future of transport, this chapter reviews the evolution of electric mobility, the most important figures that define its current situation, and the challenges that mobility will face in the future, and that make electric mobility the best option from the points of view of sustainability and efficiency.
