Abstract
An insect, especially mosquito has an imun molecule to defend from parasites in their body. The defence mechanism is very complicated and included many insects’ imunoglobulin molecules such as cecropin, defensin, and transferin. These protein molecule have been studied in Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes. However, there is a limited information of studies in Culex, especially Cx. quinquefasciatus against filarial parasite, W. bancrofti. The aim of this study was to examine the protein profile and to detect the cecropin of Cx. quinquefasciatus mosquito due to W. bancrofti infection. Mosquitoes were collected from Pekalongan and Semarang filariasis endemic areas using human bite method. Collected mosquitoes then placed into a paper cup. Protein samples were isolated from Cx. quinquefasciatus and was runned into SDS-PAGE. The results showed that total concentration of protein were varied from 1102,61 – 1723,53 µg/ml and the absorbancy was 0,233 – 0,689 at ? 495 nm, y=0,000459x + 0,0109; r = 0,995). The protein molecule profile was showed with bands at < 5 kDa - 70 kDa. This study revealed that there was protein molecule at 7.0 kDa as defensin, and 66 kDa as transferin.
