Abstract

We show equivalence of design structure matrix (shortly DSM) and axiomatic design (shortly AD). First, DSM is defined as a set of permissible ranges of both functions and constraints. We study relationship among three DSMs on design parameters, physical components and business ecosystem, which are examples of Multiple Domain Matrix. We prove that DSM on physical components for functions is equivalent to modularity matrix of AD. Next, we introduce entropy from DSM after regularizing DSM by a new parameter. We show that two limits of the entropy are logically equivalent to modularizations of real option theory and information axiom in DSM and AD.
