Abstract
This paper is a historical review of the use of ultrasound in ophthalmology. The paper will review its earliest therapeutic applications, the use of A and B Mode for diagnostic purposes, the localization of intraocular and intraocal foreign bodies by both the A and B Mode techniques, ultrasonic measurement of eyesize, and the use of intense focused ultrasound for the production of focal chorioretinal lesions. The present state of these applications will also be discussed.
