Abstract

The present article focuses on part of a previous action research with police officers in Rio de Janeiro. We aimed to discuss how self-esteem and mental health professionals of these affect and are affected by the organizational culture of the Police. We sought to demonstrate that the recovery of self-image can act as an effective tool for change in personal and professional lives of these professionals and the institution itself. For this, we applied questionnaires and qualitative techniques in 148 police officers (76 in the experimental group and 72 in the control group) before, during and after the intervention. We concluded that the research was a major contribution in our reality, constituting a systematic intervention with the police.
