Abstract
Power-MOSFET devices, once excluded from many power-control applications because of their high prices, are now gaining rapid acceptance in the power design. IC-like VLSi design techniques and process improvements make power MOSFETs cost and performance competitive with bipolar transistors in many systems. In fact, because MOSFETs can work with simpler drive circuitry, have less need for protective measures, and offer lower magnetic-component costs, they can be actually used to reduce total system costs.
