Abstract
This paper presents a research, grounded on the sociocritical paradigm, about pre-service teachers' EFL speaking skills, more concretely, students at the Faculty of Education and Humanities of Ceuta (University of Granada). With the purpose of knowing the influence of university teaching on the participants' spoken competence (n=53), an initial speaking test was followed by a second one after the subject Foreign Language and its Didactics. Research instruments were varied: the linguistic profile of the DIALANG, the speaking test of the ESOL Cambridge PET level and a personal interview. Results support the idea that more EFL instruction is required to successfully face the linguistic requirements of the ESHE.
