Abstract

In this invited paper, we describe the potential use of ChatGPT in social work science, exploring opportunities and ethical challenges related to the deployment of large language models (LLM), specifically ChatGPT, for social work science. We offer several preliminary recommendations for the ethical use of ChatGPT in social work science and call on the profession’s governing organizations to develop a comprehensive ethical framework for the use of LLMs such as ChatGPT in social work research.
