Abstract

Let S be the sum of given numbers, calculated by normalized floatingpoint arithmetic, the rounding-off law being a truncature with a guard digit. We give an algorithm to obtain all the digits of S as significant digits; very often, one step is enough to provide correction of S. © 1972 Springer-Verlag.
