Monocillium ligusticum, a new species from mycorrhizal roots in Mediterranean North Italy

Abstract

Monocillium ligusticum, sp. nov., isolated from mycorrhizal roots of two different Mediterranean plants in Liguria, North Italy, is described. This Monocillium is characterized by soft sclerotioid masses, often dominating colony appearance, sometimes consisting of discrete masses, but mostly confluent in wide sclerotial plates. The shape and size of its phialides and conidia bring it close to M. tenue W. Gams.
