Abstract

A novel concept for a gate function is proposed for the design of materials applicable to a rewritable full-color recording in a photon mode. The gate function allows to read images under high image stability, even upon the thermal back reaction of the azobenzene derivative. Such a gate function with quick temperature response can be noted for other combinations of photo-responsive compounds and non-polymeric liquid crystals that show a stable, supercooled solid state with a liquid crystalline molecular ordering.
