Abstract

The article discusses highlights of a presentation about the future of quality improvement research (QIR), held at the 2012 Advancing the Methods in Health Quality Improvement Research Conference in Virginia. It explores challenges associated with implementation science such as the focus on innovations in improving healthcare, access to study sites, and strengthening of theoretical foundations of QIR. The usefulness of improvement science in the healthcare industry is also acknowledged.
