This essay reviews Smart Technologies and the Ends(s) of Law, a rigorous and insightful exploration of the nature of contemporary technology and law by a leader of the field. The essay concludes, first, that the book is a must-read for scholars and students interested in law and technology; second, that the work would be improved were it explicitly organized around a theory of affordances; and, third, that the solutions the author proposes are unlikely to address the challenges she so masterfully lays out.
