Abstract

During the last decades the evangelical movement has penetrated significantly into Aymara communities of northern Chile. Important reconfigurations in the Aymara evangelical movement have appeared as a result of the interaction between the evangelical movement and a settling characterized by a long Catholic and Andean tradition. This interaction has also affected many of its socio-cultural practices. Through the analysis of interviews with Aymara evangelicals in the region of Tarapacá, We describe and analyze the main cultural representations that have developed within this religious movement, paying especial attention to its concrete manifestations in the symbolic, ritual, identity and language levels.
