Abstract

This study describes the process of supportive communication in broken home children in overcoming chronic trauma according to several indicators in the process of supportive communication. The approach used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The data collection technique in this study was carried out by interviewing with a purposive sampling technique, namely taking data sources with certain considerations. Data analysis was carried out using interactive analysis with data validity testing carried out by source triangulation. Based on the results of the study, showed that the informant I pair was supportive on several sides, such as not directly blaming statements given by members, not interrupting, helping to solve problems, lying for good, and always paying attention to what members said. However, there is still a gap between them which make communication stiff, thus making the client feel uncomfortable and difficult to open up. The pair of informants II was also as supportive as the pair of informants I but sometimes interrupted them when they were involved in a conversation.  The factor that influences the condition of partner I is the difference in values where the management does not accept criticism and feels that what is being done is still normal. While the factors that affect the condition of the second pair are the administrators who think they are superior. There are findings of effective messages in supportive communication for broken home children, among others, don't hate your parents too much for the divorce that has occurred, don't blame yourself too much for feeling like a useless child, don't give up on circumstances, and don't be afraid to start a relationship with your opponent kind.
