Background: HMGN5 is a nucleosome-binding protein that affects chromatin structure and function, and Lap2a is a lamin-binding protein that can also bind to DNA. Results: HMGN5 and LAP2α interact and reciprocally affect each other's genome-wide distribution. Conclusion: Nucleosome-binding proteins and laminbinding proteins interact functionally. Significance: We report a novel type of link between the chromatin fiber and the nuclear lamin network. © 2013 by The American Society.
