Abstract
Although multiple myeloma is sensitive to both chemotherapy and radiation therapy, it remains incurable at present. However, treatment algorithms (based on published data and clinical experience) can be developed to optimize therapy, which include not only therapy for the underlying disease but also supportive therapy to enhance quality of life. Because myeloma is incurable, these guidelines prominently identify the clinical settings appropriate for treatment of patients on clinical research protocols.
