The tropical ocean-atmosphere exhibits two prominent modes of low-frequency oscillations, ie, the '40-50' day oscillation and the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The two phenomena are viewed in the same perspective from 10 years of satellite-derived out-going-longwave-radiation data. Results reveal some interesting features that may lead to new insights into the understanding of the two phenomena. -AuthorsLaboratory for Atmospheres, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD 20771, USA.
