Abstract
Washing hands properly and correctly using soap is one of the activities that can prevent disease transmission. Used cooking oil can be used as a basic ingredient for making liquid hand soap by reducing the levels of free fatty acids and peroxide value using bio-adsorbent activated carbon of sugarcane bagasse. This study aims to determine the optimal KOH concentration and stirring time and its effect on the quality of used cooking oil liquid soap using bagasse bio adsorbent technology. The research method used is descriptive and experimental. The study used factorial RAL with two factors, namely concentration of alkali (KOH) (15%, 25%, 35%) and stirring time (60, 90, 120 minutes). Quantitative data analysis including water content, free alkaline residue, pH, viscosity, and foaming power using ANOVA. The test results for the characterization of used cooking oil liquid soap with bagasse bio adsorbent technology which successfully met SNI standards and showed the best value was the water content at 35% KOH concentration with stirring for 90 minutes (47.8%), free alkaline residue at 15 % KOH concentration with stirring 90 minutes (0.0043), pH at 15% KOH concentration with stirring 90 minutes (9.1), viscosity at 35% KOH concentration with 90 minutes stirring time (41.04 Pa.S) and foaming power at 35% concentration with stirring 90 minutes (5.8 cm). It can be concluded that there is an effect of KOH concentration and stirring time on the characteristics of the resulting soap and it can also be concluded that the liquid soap that has the best KOH concentration and stirring time is at a concentration of 15% and 90 minutes of stirring. This study also highlights bio adsorbent activated carbon bagasse as a promising agent in the pre-treatment of used cooking oil as a base for liquid hand washing soap.
