Abstract

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal films (PDLC) consist of low molecular liquid crystal dispersed in a polymer matrix, which have drawn much attention in recent years. Based on the strong optical anisotropy and dielectric anisotropy of liquid crystal, polymer dispersed liquid crystal films find a wide application in electrooptical industry. The preparation methods of PDLC have been introduced in this paper. As film-formation material, polymer provides a stable network for liquid crystal, and plays an auxiliary but very important role in various polymer dispersed liquid crystal devices. The effect of polymer' s structure and polymer curing process on the electrooptical properties of polymer dispersed liquid crystal films have been discussed.
