Abstract

Conservative treatment mainly consisting of corticosteroid inhalation therapy was undertaken on 5 cases of non-specific granulomas of the larynx. Among these cases, 3 cases were intubation granuloma and 2 cases were idiopathic granuloma. One case of intubation granuloma was cured within 6 months by inhalation of dexamethasone sodium phosphate by using a nebulizer. The other 4 cases were treated with beclomethasone dipropionate inhaler (BDI). All of these cases were cured within about 1 month to three and half months. We discussed the action of corticosteroid against non-specific granuloma of the larynx as well as the mechanism of granuloma development. It was thought that inhalation therapy by using BDI is a method which is easily applied in an outpatient clinic and one of useful treatments against non-specific granuloma of the larynx. © 1991, The Japan Society of Logopedics and Phoniatrics.
