Abstract

In the context of the absence of a formal citizenship status for children and adolescents, the development of digital citizenship could be an opportunity to promote their participation and protagonism. by providing them with new spaces and means to express and share then opinions, going beyond the referential frameworks of the family and school environment. The aim of this article is to analyze the limits established for the achievement of active digital citizenship in childhood and adolescence in the school environment. To this end. the normative framework was analysed and 59 testimonies, from children and adolescents, parents, experts, and teachers, were collected. The ethnographic content analysis reveals that access to digital media is limited by the guardianship and asymmetry of power with adults, in addition to the lack of recognition of political and civil rights in children and adolescents. This would be hindering progress in the development of digital citizenship in children and adolescents within the framework of the information society.
