Abstract
The paper discusses the relationship between ethics and scientific communication, bringing dilemmas that are placed in the practices of research and publication, with the objective of fomenting the ethical discussion about scientific practices and in the sense of avoiding research misconduct, that can harm a whole field of knowledge. The focus on ethical issues involves open science, open access to research data versus data privacy, multiple institutional affiliation and impacts on the assessment of authors and institutions scientific productivity, as well as the practice of slicing results in various publications, known as salami slicing. It is concluded that the discussions of these approaches are fundamental for the maintenance of the research scientific status and development of knowledge as a whole.
