Abstract
The benefits of ozonation must be weighed against the increase in organic matter in the finished water. This study is an attempt to understand the effects of ozonation on coagulation and filtration, with particular emphasis on systems in which polymer coagulants are used. Interaction between coagulants and natural organic matter (NOM) is investigated. The experiments involved sample preparation, ozonation, coagulation, and filtration. NOM precipitation with polymer was studied. It is concluded that use of dual coagulants (polymer in conjunction with a metal salt) during water treatment may offer significant benefits over use of single coagulants.
