Abstract

The assumptions that collectively constitute behaviorism are described. All had been proposed and defended before Watson coined his famous term for them. J. B. Watson was to blame for much of the confusion surrounding behaviorism because he embraced a metaphysical framework that had nothing to do with behaviorism. A sample of criticisms of behaviorism is evaluated. © 1980, The Psychonomic Society, Inc.. All rights reserved.
