Abstract

Extraordinary swelling of iron ore pellets during reduction was analyzed in controlled CO-CO//2 mixture at temperature from 600 to 1200 C; in addition to iron ore pellets, pelletizing feed, several kinds of iron ore, and reagent grade ferric oxides were reduced under same condition as pellets; most of swelling takes place in stage of reduction from wustite to metallic iron; apparent volume change is related to appearance of fibrous iron as reduction product.
