Abstract

The adaptive threshold reception scheme for OFDM pulse-width modulation (OFDM-PWM)-based visible light communication systems is presented. The authors first implement the adaptive threshold algorithm to modify the discrete OFDM-PWM sampling signal. Then, the unit periodic integral is employed for the modified time-domain sampling sequence to accurately calculate the pulse width of each OFDM-PWM sample. The proposed reception scheme is robust to the additive white Gaussian noise superimposed on the amplitude of the received OFDM-PWM signals. The experimental results show that the proposed adaptive threshold reception scheme has a better BER performance compared with the traditional OFDM.
