Abstract

This paper presents YateBTS technology that based on GSM technology that could be solution substitute for Base Transceiver Station in general. This technology system is based on software defined radios and an open sources GSM implementation software. This monitoring system was created using raspberry pi as a workstation and the software defines radio as a transceiver. This paper provides survey of recent open source cellular technologies. It further presents a prototype based on YateBTS for cellular connectivity in developing countries. In lab performance test for the proposed prototype confirm the feasibility of deploying cellular network based on open source technologies as an alternative to conventional mobile operator networks in a bid to solve the challenge. The results of the implementation of this system are the configuration of devices, users, and making calls between fellow users who have registered with YateBTS.
