The influence of the social position classified in: dominant, co-dominant and dominated on the development of the hypsometric relationship of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze in remnant native forest was studied in a random sample of 294 trees localized in Lages, SC. Five hypsometric models were fitted by regression analysis, and the Michailoff model was selected to describe the hypsometric relationship by social classes. Covariance analysis identified differences in the level and slope of the curves, justifying the use of different equations to minimize the error estimation. The hypsometric relationship described by a unique model with Dummy variable (D1), for co-dominant trees and (D2) for the trees dominated, presented a R2aj. of 0.7008 and Syx% of 12.77%.
