Abstract
At elevated temperatures, titanum and titanium alloys have a strong affinity for the elements hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrides and alpha-case can embrittle titanium alloys and cause cracking. The object of a nondestructive test is reliably to measure rejectable levels of hydrides and alpha-case in titanium alloys before parts or materials are manufactured or placed in service.
