Abstract

The study focused on the views of 289 teachers educators from 17 Teachers' Education Institutions of Basic Education on the notion of teaching professionalism developed in their student future teachers. Results of a questionnaire applied to them were used, presupposing and theoretically supporting that the representations of educators on the concept of teaching, privileged goals and competences in this training and attributes recognized as essential to the activity of teaching would reveal relevant aspects of the professionalism that their action intends to develop. The results show that the perspectives of the respondents include some elements associated with a low level concept of teaching professionalism and unveil contradictions about the concept that is being constructed. © 2019 Associacao Nacional de Pos-Graduacao e Pesquisa em Educacao.
