Abstract

In 1982, a parking lot guidance system was introduced in Nara, Japan to relieve congestion. A few years later, similar systems were introduced in other cities to relieve traffic congestion exacerbating urban traffic problems brought about as a deleterious effect of motorization. However, as urban traffic problems have become more complex, the simple, small-scale systems used are no longer adequate, hence high-function systems were introduced. Among these systems in the Advanced Toyota Parking Guidance and Information (PGT) System (PGIS). This system collects and presents parking lot information as well as urban area congestion information and even highway regulation information.
