Abstract

The influence of the sharpness of the tooth point of the top card clothing on the effectiveness of the card in removing trash is studied. A new (sharper) top card clothing is found to make much fewer neps in the sliver than an old one. Trash content in the sliver is reduced with a new top card clothing. Trash and lint content in the top waste remain constant irrespective of test conditions. Coefficient of kinetic friction between the tooth point and fibre is higher with the sharper tooth point. Fibre orientation on the top flat is improved with a sharper tooth point.
