Abstract

Since ancient times thermal cures have incorporated the use of peloids for specific treatments that complement the use of mineral-medicinal waters. In recent years, a growing body of scientific studies in this area shows great results in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, pain, infected wounds, dermatological and dermocosmetic alterations, among others. One of the aims of this essay is to define what is understood by peloid, to indicate the historical background of its use and to address its diverse composition, both in its solid and liquid phases, as well as its variable characteristics stemming from these components.
