Abstract
In this paper authors attempt first to classify in a simple physical way accelerating configurations that have been suggested and discuss some of their limitations. Attention is then directed to conventional accelerators, and to new ideas of topical interest, specifically those involving lasers and the two-beam concept. In conclusion, some tentative suggestions are made for profitable activity in the future.
