Abstract

ABSTRACTEnvironmental quality is still an issue in society. One of them is related to the problem of waste. Waste problems that cause environmental pollution can be found in Banjarmasin, especially around residential areas on the banks of rivers. The increase in community settlements causes an increase in the amount of waste thrown into the river. Therefore, this study aims to determine the characteristics of the community, attitudes, and behavior of the people on the banks of the Alalak river related to disposing of household waste and to estimate the average amount of waste generated in each family head. The research population is the head of the family who lives on the banks of the Alalak River, as many as 37 Neighborhood Associations, and as many as 3191 Heads of families. The research sample based on Krejcie and Morgan's tables was 346 respondents. The types of data are primary and secondary and use quantitative descriptive methods. The study results confirm that the community is the lower middle class and indigenous people who have lived for a long time. The majority of the people along the Alalak river throw their garbage into the river or carelessly because attitudes influence them based on personal experience, lack of awareness and responsibility in environmental service activities, the unavailability of adequate waste disposal facilities, and the lack of facilities and methods of waste management provided by the government. The results of the calculation of the estimated waste of the community along the Alalak River based on the estimated amount of waste all respondents produced 930 kilograms of solid waste and produced 132900 liters of liquid waste per day with an average of 3 kilograms of solid waste and bath, wash, toilet liquid waste with a range of 300 liters per household.ABSTRAKKualitas lingkungan masih menjadi isu di masyarakat.
