Abstract

Dietary cholesterol is not an important cause of coronary heart disease, and a moderate regular intake is not harmful. But the high intake of saturated fat in developed countries is one of several factors contributing to coronary heart disease and, therefore, represents a health hazard. It is good sense, therefore, for healthy individuals to reduce the total amount of saturated fat and also the total caloric intake, which is often excessive.
