Breeding and transgenesis as means of decreasing adiposity in farm animal species: practice and promise

Abstract

The potential for reducing the fat content in the major livestock species, i.e., cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry, by conventional selection is examined and initial attempts to improve lean tissue growth by the use of gene transfer are briefly reviewed.
