Abstract
The issue of the conservation units management effectiveness depends on the knowledge of whether the management politics in theses conservation units are adequate to its creation goal, which is the conservation of biodiversity. This study aimed to analyze the management effectiveness at the Ibitipoca state park, encompassing the municipalities of Lima Duarte and Santa Rita do Ibitipoca, in Southeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil. The park management effectiveness was assessed from four modules: planning, inputs, processes and management results, where each module consisted of assessment of different parameters. Results showed a level of 54% of management effectiveness, which represents an averagely satisfactory level. The need for investments in human resources, inadequacy in financial resources and decision-making were highlighted as challenges, and compliance with the objectives, research, supervision and monitoring were highlighted as opportunities.
