Abstract

The results of the investigation of ion emission from a Ag target irradiated with high-intensity (up to 5 X 1016 W/cm2) 1 ps laser pulse are presented. It is shown that using a picosecond subjoule laser a production of intense streams of highly charged (charge state z>20), high-energy (up to hundreds of kilo-electron-volts) Ag ions is possible. Some properties of the ion streams are discussed. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.
